Family history research service

In 1856, Queensland started compulsory registration of life events. We hold records of life events (births, deaths and marriages) that took place in Queensland between 1829 and present day. Historical records are:

  • births that took place more than 100 years ago
  • marriages that took place more than 75 years ago
  • deaths that occurred more than 30 years ago.

It is free to search historical records online. You can then buy a:

registration image - $22.90 (online PDF)
source image - $22.90 (online PDF)
historical certificate (A4) - $32.20 (standard postage included)

  1. Search by the name of a person

For a marriage search, enter the name(s) of one of the parties

    • Refine results further: (Tip: You can refine your date ranges within these options)
    • Results are sorted by closest match to the person’s name and then by parents’ names (for births and deaths) or by other party’s name (for marriages).
